please helpp :(

I know the title is kind of "out there", but lately my cat has been acting very strange. For the past two days she has been looking lonely. But the strange part is that she is having a very low, scratchy meow and she is basically crawling on the floor with her bottom raised up(picture link below). I feel very upset, she looks so miserable. Should I be worried? Is she in heat?

Answer by Kate
Hi well if she is not spayed then yes it is possible she is in heat. All i would say is that if her behavior gets any worse or if she stops eating etc then get her to a vets as soon as possible.

Lets hope her behavior is just normal in heat behavior.

best wishes Kate

What's wrong with my cat please?

by Felicity
(Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK)

Hi there,
Last weekend, one of our cats (we have two sisters) started to get sick. It looked like it was mainly just saliva. We took her to the vet 24 hours after it had started as it was still carrying on. The vet said it could be feline enteritis and gave her an antibiotic injection and anti-vomiting injection.
The cat, Jet, had a bit of an improvement over the next 24 hours, only getting sick once or twice. We had a follow-up appointment the next morning at the vets, where Jet was given another antibiotic injection, this one slightly stronger than the last to try and get rid of the infection.
Jet didn't get sick at all for quite some time, she slept most of the day which we thought could be the antibiotics knocking her out.
We had been told to only give her minute amounts of chicken. At teatime we gave her her chicken, about half an hour later she brought it back again. This was the first time she'd been sick in 18 hours.
The next day, today, she had her chicken, but she seems even more quiet than before, and is sitting hunched-up on the chair rather than relaxing and flopping out.
What's wrong with her? Should we be worried?
Our last kitten, Smokey, died at the age of 5 months from FIP. This isn't FIP as well is it? Smokey and Jet are not related by the way.
Thank you so much for your help!
Felicity

Answer by Kate
Hi Felicity, this sounds horrible for you both. I would have thought that their should be signs of improvement by now, antibiotics normally need a week to fully work but normally there are signs of a general improvement.

All I can tell you is that if you are worried that she is getting worse rather than better, I would strongly recommend that you telephone your vet and get some more advice. They want to do some more tests etc.

As what could be causing this, I'm afraid I could not say as it is impossible to diagnose without test etc. Hopefully it is just a bad case of enteritis which needs a little time to go away.

Just a thought has your vet checked that it could not be a hairball in the stomach that is causing a problem. i only say that as they can be a bit nasty in some cases and often vomiting of clear liquid is one of the symptoms. But this is just a layman's opinion. check with your vet.

I hope your cat is back to good health soon

best wishes Kate

What's wrong with my cat

my 2months old kitten is breathing rapidly and foam is coming out of her mouth, she is stuck all stretched out, and her head is back. and she looks like she is having ceizures, when she hears noises, or you get close to her.

Answer by Kate
There is no way that I can possibly try and diagnose this problem. yes she may be having seizures, she may be epileptic, she may even have been poisoned. Please take her to the vets as soon as you can.

best wishes Kate

whats wrong with my Kitten ?!?!

by daniela
(california)

okayy i got my kitty when she was like 8 weeks old. now she might be around 6 months, and all of a sudden thses past few days shes been acting totally diffrentt. she dosent meow constantly like usual, and isnt playfull at all, all she does is lay there all day & shes never been like this. i dont get whats wrong. is she like not feeling well? could she be pregnant? helpp!!

ANswer by kate
well yes she could be feeling under the weather. Just like us humans cats also get there off days especailly if we have a sore throat or just feel a little unwell.

Keep an eye on her for the next day or so and see if she picks up, make sure that she eats and drinks. If she seems to get worse and stops eating etc then it could be a good idea to get her checked by a vet.
However it is more than likely she is just feeling a little unwell and that it will pass in a day or so.
best wishes Kate

whats wrong

her tail.

her tail.

my cat has something wrong with her furr i didnt notice it when she was givin to me by a friend, but i was petting her and saw that she had some bald spots on her head and so i looked around her body and found more it looks like she has bad dandriff. some bald spots are kinda sticky her tail is almost completely bald.

Answer by Kate
there are several causes of fur loss, stress and over grooming, parasites or even skin allergies. there is only one way to know for sure is to take her to the vets where he will be able to take skin samples to get them anaylised.
It is better to do this sooner rather than later as the cat could be in some distress.

Whats wrong with my cat?

by Sherri

My cat is a male, about 6 years old and is always outside/inside. He is Fixed.

The past weeks he has had worms and we have been giving him all sorts of stuff to get it fixed and we finally got him worm-free today. (maybe) But as today as his first day in a couple days inside, he has been twitching and breathing kinda hard. As i watch him lay on my bed and try to go to sleep. He hardly can because he twitches so much. I don't really know what is wrong with him.

Does this mean he has had a seizure or a heart attack the past few days?

Thanks,
Sherri

Answer by Katye
Hi sherri
the twitching sounds more like a flea or allergy problem to me. You never know he may even be having a reaction to some of the medication you have been giving him.

My advice would be , see what he is like for another day and if there is no change then I would get him to the vets to get the problem diagnosed properly.

My own cat twitches like mad from time to time as she is allergic to flea bites so she only has to get one on her from outside and it can affect her. the vet gave her a antihistimen injection for the twitching when it was first diagnosed. Your own cat may be suffering from something similar.

I hope all works out well for you all best wishes and a happy new year

what is wrong with my cat

Hi, well my cat is about 5 years old .he's been thin and skinny for about 6 months or so.He has a good apettite.he also has really bad breath.he still moving around good ,but sleeps more than usual.he also once in a while has the sniffles and sneezes. What could this possibly be?

Answer by Kate
well the skinny thing could be a hormone inbalance like a thyroid problem. This is where the body does not use the nutrients from the food properly and so the cat losses weight. It can also make them more tired. your vet will be able to take a blood test to see what the problem is.

The bad breath might be caused by some bad teeth. Again the vet will check this when you take him.

my cat keeps puting his but in the air and shakeing it re refuses to walk and crawls instead it looks like he can not poop

Answer by Kate
yes it does sound like he may have some discomfort there. I am not a vet though and so cannot say what it could be. if you do suspect constipation then please see my page under cat health about this issue.

otherwise A trip to the vets would be the best thing.

whats wrong with my cat

my cat was spayed on tuesday . know four days after the surgery she is vomiting what could be wrong with her and what can i do to help her.

Answer by KAte
I am not a vet and so cannot diagnose a medical condition. She may be having some adverse affects from the anethetic. Telephone your vet for advice he may be able to give her something for the vomiting or he may want to see her in case something else is wrong. That would be my first thing to do.

What is wrong with my cat?

My cat when he was healthy

My cat when he was healthy

My cat is 12 years old. He has been really skinny for 6 months now. He throws up a lot and doesn't poop in his litter box. He eats plenty of cat food. We went to the vet about 4 months ago and they said he was fine but his condition has gotten worse. He moves slower and sleeps a lot. What is wrong with him?

Answer by Kate
A cat owner is the best person to notice if their cat is changing in either behaviour or body shape. so if you think he is still possibly ill then you need to get him to another vets for some tests.

I don't know if the other vets did any tests or not like blood work etc. SO i am not sure what they based their diagnosis on. Only you can know that.

My best advice is, take them to another vets for a second opinion and ask for some tests to be done.

I am not a vet and so cannot give a medical diagnosis but weight loss while still eating may be a sign of an underlying problem , such as a thyroid problem.

I really hope you can find a vet that will be able to fully check your cats health out and make you feel confident in their treatment and diagnosis.

best wishes Kate

Whats wrong with my Cat.

by Emily Baker
(Canada On)

Hi.. i have a 9 year old tabby and all of a sudden he had really bad dandruff and he is matting really bad. Also he hasnt been peing in the litterbox. We just had our 16 year old persion put down yesterday who also missed the litterbox. Could this be related? either he is picking up a sent and he thinks its ok or could he have caught something she had?

Answer by KAte
yes it could be that your cat feels upset by the fact that the other cat is not around and he is suing his urine to make his home smell more like him which will calm him down. yes it could be that the cat can still smell the other cats urine and is trying to overscent the place. It might be a good ise to give your cat a few days or retraining in a seperate room to get his confidence back. Alos after cleaning the urine off the floor try springling some bicarbionate of soda when it is dry and leaving it for an hour or so to remove any last traces of smell.

Regarding the matting etc, sometimes long fur just gets out of control and becomes matted, regualr brushing is recommended for cats with long hair because of this. It can be very painful for the cat and this may also be amking him feel unwell and could be causing him to urinate everywhere to try and calm himself down. Matts have to be removed by a professional gromer or vet as they are very painful and need specail tools and handling. Once they are out prevent them by brushing the cat a couple of times a week to get rid of loose hair and grit.

best wishes Kate
